Identity Checks
Checks on your identity happen before you first deposit and continue while your account stays open. They stop underage play, fraud and money laundering, and get your winnings paid to the right person.
1. Why we verify
1.1 Players join only from places where gambling is legal locally. Canadian rules on checking age and ID and stopping money laundering guide what we do.
1.2 Our checks confirm four things:
- You are 19+.
- You are the person named on the account.
- Your location is permitted.
- The money you deposit is yours and comes from a legitimate source.
1.3 The checks also protect you. Nobody else can cash out your winnings or use your payment methods.
1.4 Everything runs in Canadian dollars (CAD). No fees on deposits or withdrawals.
2. Sanctions and PEP screening
2.1 We run every new player through sanctions lists and PEP lists (politically exposed persons). A PEP is someone in a prominent public position today or in the recent past. Their relatives and close associates go through the same checks.
2.2 Being a PEP won't stop you playing, but it does trigger enhanced checks. Expect a possible source of funds check and approval from a senior compliance officer before your account goes live.
2.3 We are unable to open or maintain an account for anyone named on a sanctions list. Any funds are handled in line with legal requirements.
2.4 We repeat screening whenever the lists are updated, not just at sign-up.
3. Source of funds
3.1 As your deposits increase, we will ask about the source of your money. We will also ask if your activity is inconsistent with the information we hold about you.
3.2 Documents that answer this question include:
- Recent payslips or an employment contract
- Bank statements showing regular income
- Tax documents
- Proof of a sale of property, shares or other investments
- Documents confirming an inheritance or gift
3.3 We may pause deposits and withdrawals until we receive and accept the documents.
3.4 We request only what the check requires, and everything you send is kept confidential.
4. Ongoing monitoring
4.1 Our systems and our compliance staff check deposits, bets and withdrawals throughout the life of your account.
4.2 These patterns trigger a closer look:
- Money deposited and then withdrawn again with hardly any betting in between
- Frequent switching between payment methods
- Payments from cards or bank accounts in another person's name
- Several accounts linked by device, address or payment details
- Sudden increases in how much you deposit or how often you deposit
4.3 We will ask for fresh documents once your ID has expired or your personal details have changed.
4.4 Monitoring also supports safer play. The signs we track are listed on our Safer Play page.
5. Identity and age checks
5.1 To open an account, give us three details: your legal name exactly as you use it, your birthday and the residential address you currently live at.
5.2 We run an electronic check of these details against trusted data sources. A location check confirms that you are in a permitted area. Both checks happen before any deposit.
5.3 If we can't verify your identity electronically, we'll ask for documents:
- Photo ID: a passport, driver's licence or other government-issued photo card that is still valid.
- Address: a recent bank or utility statement showing your full name and home address.
- Card payments: a picture of your Visa or Mastercard, front side. Hide the middle digits so only the first six and last four are visible. Cover the security code on the back too.
- Interac e-Transfer, Online Banking / Trustly or eCheck: a bank statement or banking app screenshot that displays your name and the account you used.
- Apple Pay: a screenshot of your wallet showing the linked card and your name.
5.4 Every image must be sharp and in colour. The whole document must appear, with its four corners in view. No cropping, no editing.
5.5 Send your documents to support@albertacasino.app, using the email on your account.
5.6 We pay withdrawals only to a method in your name: Interac e-Transfer, Visa, Apple Pay or Online Banking / Trustly.
6. When checks fail
6.1 Missing or unclear documents: we pause your account. You cannot deposit, play or withdraw until the check is complete.
6.2 Forged or altered documents, or documents belonging to someone else: we shut down the account and void winnings. We may also report the matter as the law requires.
6.3 Player under 19: we shut down the account straight away, as set out in our Underage Gambling Policy.
6.4 Any winnings tied to a false identity are held back. Deposits go back to the method they were paid with, where the law permits.
6.5 We tell you the outcome by email. We give our reasons unless the law prevents us from doing so.
7. Record keeping and reporting
7.1 We keep identity, transaction and check records securely for the period Canadian law requires. Your Privacy explains how we protect this data.
7.2 Suspicious transactions are reported to the appropriate Canadian authorities, as required by law.
7.3 Legally, we cannot tell a player whether a report has been filed, so we never confirm or deny that one exists.
7.4 We work with law enforcement when they make lawful requests.
