Safer Play
Alberta Casino is made for adults who treat gambling as fun and stay firmly on top of their spending and playing time. This page sets out our commitment, the limits you can set and the breaks you can take, plus free help if gambling stops being enjoyable.
1. Our commitment
1.1 Everything on offer, from slots to table games and live tables, is entertainment. Stake only money you could lose without hardship, and never money meant for rent, bills or food.
1.2 Sign-ups are taken only from places where local gambling is legal. Canadian rules govern our age verification, identity checks and our money laundering prevention.
1.3 We watch play for warning signs. These include chasing losses, deposits that keep climbing, sessions that run later and later, and cancelled withdrawals that go back into play. When we spot these signs, we email you. We may also pause offers or apply limits to protect you.
1.4 A loss never triggers a bonus from us. Anyone on a break or who has self-excluded receives no marketing from us.
1.5 You pay nothing to use any tool here, and turning to one never counts against you.
2. Protecting minors
2.1 Alberta Casino is for players aged 19+. There are no exceptions.
2.2 You can't deposit until we have checked three things: your identity, your age and that your location is allowed.
2.3 Any account opened by a player under 19 is shut, and all play on it is cancelled. See our Underage Gambling Policy for full details.
3. How limit changes take effect
3.1 Lowering a limit: instant. Save the new figure and it takes effect right away.
3.2 Raising or removing a limit: this takes 24 hours. Your old, lower limit stays in force during the wait. Use that time to decide whether you really want more room to play.
3.3 Once a break or a self-exclusion starts, you cannot shorten it. We will not end one early on request, including by email.
3.4 Once a limit is reached, we stop accepting the deposits or bets it covers until your chosen limit period starts again.
4. Free help and support
4.1 These organisations offer free support to players and to the people close to them:
- Responsible Gambling Council
- YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program
- BetGuard
- GameSense
- ConnexOntario
4.2 You can keep your account open while you contact them. Reaching out to them early is a sensible move.
5. Self-assessment
5.1 Your account includes a self-assessment quiz: a few brief questions about how you play.
5.2 Answer honestly. The results are for you, and we never use your answers for marketing.
5.3 The quiz asks questions such as these:
- Do you need bigger bets to get the same thrill?
- Are you playing to recover money you've lost?
- Do you cover up your gambling around friends or family?
- Have you borrowed money to play?
- Does not being able to play make you restless or irritable?
5.4 If several of your answers are yes, act now. You can set a limit, start a cooling-off break or reach out to an organisation listed in section 4.
6. Tools you control
6.1 Manage every tool below from your account settings. Prefer not to? Email us and we'll set it up for you.
Deposit limits
6.2 Set a cap on your deposits over a period you choose. The minimum deposit is C$10, and every deposit counts toward your cap.
Wager limits
6.3 Limit the total you can wager over a period of your choosing, across all games including slots, table games and live tables.
Stake limits
6.4 Set a maximum for each individual bet, spin or hand. This stops one large bet from pushing a session out of control.
Reality checks
6.5 During play, a pop-up shows the length of your session so far and your net result up to that point. From the pop-up you can continue playing, view your history or sign out.
Time alerts
6.6 Set a target for how long you want to play. When you hit it, an alert appears on screen so you can choose whether to stop.
Take a break (cooling-off)
6.7 Need a break? Lock your account for at least 1 day and at most 6 weeks. While locked, you can't deposit or play, and all marketing stops. Your balance remains secure and available to withdraw.
Self-exclusion
6.8 Need a longer break? Go for self-exclusion. Email us and we'll block your access for the period you pick. We also block any new account set up using your details, and remove you from all marketing, Alberta Rewards offers included. The exclusion runs for the full period.
Account closure
6.9 To close your account permanently, email us with your request. Once our standard checks are complete, any remaining balance is paid out to a withdrawal method held in your own name: Interac e-Transfer, Visa, Apple Pay or Online Banking / Trustly.
Identity and location checks
6.10 We process no deposit until your identity has been verified and your location confirmed as permitted. This keeps minors and excluded players off the site. Full details are on our Identity Checks page.
